MG TF1500, built in February 1955, was purchased by me October 2013. My first two cars were MG’s, a 1932 “M” type midget and a 1953 MG TD, bought in my late teens (M type) and early 20’s (TD). Hobbies in those days were long distance fell and mountain running, followed later for 30 years by offshore sailing. Before it was too late, I moved from sailing back to my first love: classic MG’s, but I upgraded to a TF with 5-speed gearbox (otherwise original).
All improvements were for reliability and safety, but within the concept of originality. The key ones were: added a heater (offered as option when new); replaced coil & leaf springs back to original; anti-roll bar fitted; renewed entire brake system and master cylinder (with remote header/filler tank); instruments refurbished; replaced old (and dangerous) braid on braid wiring loom; seats refurbished by Connolly; electronic distributor and fuel pump; SU carburettors rebuilt; Halogen headlamp conversion; lights changes to LED’s. Most of this work done by me, some by professionals.
Most places visited are within 150 miles of Chester, plus Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland for Gordon Bennett historic car event (twice).
The Car and its introduction to a very active social scene is vital to me, because as a single person good friends are important.
